Recent Adoption Stories That Warm Our Hearts
At Pratt Area Humane Society, every adoption is a new beginning. 2026 has brought loving happy homes for several of our dogs and cats and hope for the ones still with us. Here are a few stories that show the impact of your support:
Autumn finds a home where the only boxes are for her to play in. Autumn was brought to us by a good samaritian that found her in a small carboard box. We estimated she was around 5 weeks at that time. Within days she came out of her shell and proved to be one of the bravest, energetic kittens we have seen. She didn't spend much time with us and because of her beautiful coloring and rowdy personality. She was adopted to a a very nice retired man who was willing to become her 24/7 play buddy. We are so happy for Autumn and her amazing adopter.
Chcken, Formerally Known as Leo Finds His Match: Chicken, a lively orange tabby cat, was adopted by Ashtyn Potter. Ashtyn and her dad came in looking for a buddy for their other cat Duncan. They tried another cat first but it just wasn't a good fit and they really wanted a kitten, but sweet Chicken stole their hearts with his affection and calm nature. He has fit in perfectly and has become friends with Duncan. Congrats Chicken!!
Group Adoption-Archie and Edith: Sometimes, siblings or bonded pairs find homes together. Recently, a pair of kittens, Archie and Edith, were adopted by a Great Bend resident. She originally came to adopt Archie but when she realized Edith was Archies sister, she couldn't bare to separate them. They were both brought to PAHS when they were around 3 weeks old and had been with us for 3 months. Shawnda has sent us updates and pictures and both kittens act like they have always been with Shawnda. She is smitten with both of these precious kittens.
Home Sweet Home-Ava: Loveable Ava was brought to PAHS on September 22nd 2025. Normally I can't tell you the exact date when our animals join us without looking at their records. However, Ava is different. 19 hours after Ava was brought to us by Officer Hitz of the Pratt Police Department she gave birth to 7 healthy puppies. She was scared and unsure what to do with all these crying puppies so Maria and I spent the majority of the day sitting with her on the floor, petting her, comforting her and reassuring her she was safe and loved. Ava became a wonderful mother and all of her puppies were adopted when they turned 8 weeks old. Ava spent another 2 months with us while we put weight on her extremely thin body. She was then spayed and fully vetted and only had to wait a few short weeks before Jenni sent us an application. Jenni and her husband were a perfect fit for Ava. They already had 2 doberman rescues and they fell in love with her instantly. Ava has adjusted well with her human and dog family. Thank you to Jenni and her family for rescuing Ava and giving her the home and family that will love her forever!
ava and her new canine family members (side note: All of Ava's puppies went to wonderful homes and all 7 of them are doing great. We have gotten many updates and they are all growing into beautiful dogs)
Since January 1st 2026 PAHS has had 11 adoptions!! That is an amazing start to the new year. Other animals that have been adopted this year:
Chaley
Jasper
Penquin
Bruce
Tooter
Last but not least, DELILAH!: Delilah had been with us for 6 months and she finally got her shot at a forever home and family with Steve and Kirsten Blankenship!! We are over the moon happy for Delilah and the Blankenships. Kirsten said she was in love with Delilah within 10 minutes of playing with her. Pictures sent to us indicate that Delilah has already forgotten about her months of sleeping on a cot in her dog run at PAHS. She now gets to take naps on the couch and be the center of attention. YAY for Delilah.

These stories remind us that every animal deservesd a chance. Your involvement helps make these happy endings possible.

Improvements at Pratt Area Humane Society
Thanks to generous donations and volunteer efforts, the shelter has seen several improvements recently:
New Outdoor Meet and Greet Area: If you haven't been out to see us lately then you haven't seen our amazing meet and greet area. Our once dull side yard has been transformed into a beautiful area to come and meet your next furry family member. Complete with seating and wind screens and a large area covered with artificial turf for the dogs to run and play. Stop by anytime during normal business hours and say..."Can I play with a dog in your new play yard?" Who knows, you might just find the dog you didn't know you needed.
We have also made many other improvement and repairs: In the Fall of 2025 we were able to update our insulation above the dropped ceiling throughout PAHS. This has allowed us to be more energy efficient and make the dogs and cats more comfortable.
Front Flower Beds: We have plans this spring to revamp our garden beds in front of PAHS. Landscaping them into more water conscious rock gardens that will also benefit the large number of horned lizards that are making a come back in our area. We have also planted numerous trees on the property in hopes that one day they will provide some shade for our dogs. If you would like to plant a tree on the PAHS grounds please give us a call and we can help you plant it or plant it for you.
These upgrades improve animal welfare and make the shelter a more welcoming place for visitors and volunteers.
